Have a short memory for small mistakes. It happens just keep going. Always have a guitar tuner on your headstock and tune silently! Know your material! Practice! This brings confidence! No frowning on stage! Keep it upbeat! Keep it moving! No long pauses between songs! Keep the vibe alive! You are entertainers and also there to help the bar make money! Our band began doing batches of 6 songs with a brief moment to address the crowd, then on to the next 6 before our break. We put songs together that were all capo'd songs, or a couple together with drop D tuning and make sure we do instrument changes at the small break halfway. As for sound issues, a soundcheck 15-20 minutes before the first set is a must to make sure everything works. Nothing worse than starting late with everyone watching you. Leave the mixing board alone once you have your mix! We also start a bit quieter if the room is half full and turn up gradually as it gets busier. That works for the older crowd, anyways.

Never glare at a band member when you or they mess up, or share those with the people that came to watch you. Just laugh about it out loud; if an audience member noticed, they'll see that you did too, and if they bring it up after the gig, you've already laughed it off in your head, so you won't be defensive about it. Save it for rehearsal or talking about the show with the band later or the next day.

This is incredibly boring and time consuming, right folks? I have a solution! Put on a song. Try to pluck on beat. If you can't, pluck every other beat. It's not REALLY jamming with your favorite songs, but it lets you feel like you're working in time to something better than a metronome. It also lets you get through the reps without a bored sigh. You got this!
I've got a custom fanned stylist dlx model Mike made for me (long story), and I tossed some gold graph tech skeleton head tuners and some optima gold string on it with some fancy bridge pins. The guitar sure gets a lot of double takes now lol. Honestly the stylist is like playing an electric guitar and very quiet unplugged (kind of nice when you don't feel like being obnoxious), but holy crap it sounds amazing when plugged in. More so when you turn on the secondary pickup mounted under the top wood. Can't remember where it's located but if you start tapping around on the top wood you'll find it pretty quick hah

Very cool. The Fender site doesn’t clearly give that info. My Mexican Strat was built 2003-2004. MX3. I found my trio, Fender Jaguars, Mexican Strats HSS and Epi Les Paul. Thank you!!

So a full circle moment. I came across one of your instructional videos a while back (not knowing who you were). I'm a huge fan of Parliament-Funkadelic. There's a live performance here on RUclips with Bernie Worrell and Eddie Hazel playing Funkadelic's Red Hot Mama in NY 1992. There's one guitarist i didnt know, but he was going OFF on the guitar. Someone in the comments mentioned: "Larry Mitchell is a class act by handing his guitar cable to Eddie Hazel so he can play" (there were some technical difficulties with sound on Eddie's guitar). Turns out that was YOU 🤯🤯🤯. You are a beast on the guitar man!!! Thanks for teaching us how to be that good too! I decided to get a guitar with a Floyd Rose trem system last Summer after watching that performance!

I know this video is old, but thanks for the tips. For years I was "cheating" by using my pinky to pull off pinch harmonics. Which in turn has given me a lot of really cool tools to use, but now being able to pull it off with my thumb as well as my pinky. I feel like I'm a step above my competition... With your help. Thank you.

Those have an interesting wirey twang sound that's a great additional tool to get a unique vintage sound. Hilotrons were originally designed for hollow body guitars and when they are slapped onto a solid body, the tone is weaker and lacking bass. The result is a GREAT guitar for clean work with pedals or when you don't want to push your amp from the front at all.
